As time passes, they will slowly start to reveal their true self to you. The picture is like Frank in the book Two Badges. Frank is disguised as a nice man like how the man is disguised as a woman. Eventually, the law enforcements in the picture reveal the man. Time is like the law enforcements. As time passes, time reveals Frank to be a corrupt man. In the book Two Badges, Frank fools Mona by being this nice and outgoing guy who seems like he doesn't get into the gang life as much like Mona. However, Mona's marriage with Frank proves her wrong. When Mona finds out that he has been doing heroin the whole time they have been together, she begins to realize that "his strength and earnest words attracted me to him. It had all been bullshit." Mona realizes that all the things that Frank had shown her, while she was in love with him, is all a hoax. They are expected to deliver justice and yet there are times where that's not true. The PD in Two Badges are a prime example of that. The police officers in the PD are expected to deliver justice fairly just like the words in the picture. However, when Mona calls the cops, they are biased towards Frank which is the complete opposite of what the expectations are. Like the picture, the words say one thing while the action says another. The expectations should create hope yet these cops destroy that hope. In the end, they arrest Frank only because she told them that she was working in the police department. Mona scolded the cops that she," shouldn't have to be a police employee to get you to listen" and questioned, "Was the law only for its enforcers?" If Mona was a regular citizen, the cops would've thrown her into the streets because Frank is a man and therefore was more believable in their eyes. This scene breaks the expectation that some police officers must be unbiased when solving crime which therefore proves that things aren't always what they seem to be. It is essential to work hard in order to achieve your goals and sometimes, it does reward you in the end. Take the picture as an example of Mona. She is working hard to become a police officer. Like the boy, she trains hard and works every day to become a police officer. In the end, Mona is able to become a police officer and the boy has beautiful flowers due to their hard work. Mona worked hard to become a police officer in the police academy even though, "The classwork was hard, with about seven books to study, and the hours on the blacktop were grueling." This shows that Mona is working hard and not giving up despite the difficulty. Due to Mona's hard work and gruesome studying, she ended up getting a huge step closer to becoming an officer. During graduation, "Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters pinned badge No. 1725 on my crisp blue uniform on graduation day, December 16, 1989." This is the day that marks a huge milestone in her goal to becoming a police officer. At times, this can be true due to the good usually being morally right. In Mona's case, Mona is the angel in the book and Frank is the demon. In the memoir, Two Badges, Frank doesn't allow Mona to have a job which temporarily ruins her dream to become a police officer. Through a long hard battle, Mona finally breaks away from Frank and becomes a police officer. Mona would often look down at her tattoo and, "remember not only the pain and mistakes of the past, but also my triumph over them." By 'them', Mona means by Frank and his abuse. Mona's tattoo of Frank is like a reminder of the bad things she had gone through and how she overcame them. If you take one out of balance, the outcomes of your decision may turn out terrible. Mona should have what the picture is doing. She needed to have a balance between reasoning and emotions. However, she let that balance go once she met Frank. Even though Mona knew that Frank had a child, she still kept dating him. There was a time that even Mona questioned herself, " I suddenly remembered Frank's words about his baby and ex-girlfriend and my smile vanished. What was I getting into?" Mona knew that Frank wasn't committed to a relationship either yet still followed her feelings. Once they got married, Frank began to show signs of abusive behavior towards Mona. However, not until after 5 years of their marriage that Mona divorced Frank. During all this time with Frank, Mona should've used her reasoning to leave Frank, yet she let her emotions take over.
