Globalization and Sustainability
(Commonality)
Students will employ the thinking routine COLOUR - SYMBOL - IMAGE about a local environmental problem/issue which concerns them and other members of the community.
For example: SMOG
COLOUR: Grey
SYMBOL: Smoking chimney
IMAGE: A picture or drawing of the city shrouded in smog.
The idea is to use this exercise as a point of departure for deeper inquiry into how to raise awareness around environmental issues and concerns. The intention is to look at shared global problems and common solutions and/or coping strategies. This will help them to contextualize their summative task which is to write a story which is semi-autobiographical about how the student "thought global by acting local.
