It turned an old fairy tale— that everyone knows— into a religion, society, culture, and it was like a bible and the law mixed. It had LGBT representation— which was a huge "no-no"— within it, mystery, feminism, action, and more. It was slow in the beginning but now it is speeding up. There are some people of colour and race issues within it. It's taken longer to read this than other books that I read. It is a bit confusing to read because there are so many blank spots in the main character's memory that the readers don't know either. There is also the fact that she is juggling to separate teams so we're not quite sure who's telling the truth and who's not.

Update (Nov. 8): So I finished the book. The ending really came out of nowhere. It made no sense and it was not where the story was going originally. In my opinion, it was a good book, but it would've been better if the author stayed on the same page as she was originally on, I would've enjoyed the ending more. The ending was very confusing and made no sense at all. There were a lot of holes in the reader's knowledge and it was supposed to end on a cliffhanger, but I was so confused and understood nothing of what happened which makes me not want to even read the next one. I am just so confused and nothing made sense. It's modern issues in the poems including mental health disorders, social and ethical events, and more. There's even romance poetry portraying an innocent, sweet, romantic event.

when his eyes met mine.
I smiled to myself as I watched him
Continue with the assignment,
Subconciously tapping his pen on the tsble
Whilst sneaking glances at her.
I would like for him to look at me that way.

My current read (Legend Born) is opening my eyes to what people of colour go through on a daily basis. No, people aren't straight out being racist to the main character, Bree, but she walks into a room and the first thing she notices is how different she is. At her college, majority of the rooms she is walking into, she is the only black person. At one point, two girls the she is "acquaintances(?)" with begin petting her curly hair. She immediately argues that she is not an animal in a petting zoo and just because she has different hair does not mean that they can just do whatever they like.

There is also a point in which there is a plaque on the wall talking about the (black) slaves that built the building. The way I would've thought about it is (obviously) much different than Bree does. She immediately feels angry with underlying tones of sadness for her ancestors whereas I would have anger as well, but in a different way. These are her ancestors that went through it versus my ancestors were the ones who put hers through that. 

Even in the TV show Brooklyn 99 (B99), the precinct's captain is a gay black man while the sergeant is also a black man. In one episode, Sergeant Terrance "Terry" "Sarge" Jeffords is in his own neighbour hood at night looking for the toy his daughter dropped earlier that day. He was in his PJs and a hoodie. A police officer driving by stopped and asked him what he was doing in the neighbourhood. Terry explained that he lived in the neighbourhood. When the police officer thought he was lying, Terry said he was a sergeant in the 99. The officer still thought Terry was lying, so he began to arrest Terry. Terry was not doing anything threatening or illegal. He was just looking for his daughter's toy. If I was in the same neighbourhood as Terry, wearing and doing the exact same thing, I would likely be ignored or asked if I needed help. The officer would never ask me why I was in that neighbourhood or think I was lying about living there/being a commanding officer. The officer would likely stop and help me look for the toy.

The world is becoming more equal and calling racists out, but we are far from perfect. The amount of racism I see online or even in our own school is astonishing. I don't understand why people treat others so differently. I don't understand why where someone was born or the colour of their skin makes them less than white people. How did everyone just automatically think "they look different so they must be less than/bed." It's basically the same as saying "I have brown hair and you have blonde so I'm better than you and now I own you." I will never understand how it resorted to human beings OWNING other human beings and making them do all their hardwork. All of these books and shows I'm reading/watching, opens my eyes even more to my white priviledge.

Even with the Indigenous Peoples. The government gave them one day for reconciliation, BUT Justin Tredeau wouldn't go to a ceremony that day and went the night before  so that he oculd have a day off. It's not like something I've read before. This girl was very unhappy with her life and overdosed on pills. She was sent to a place between life and death which (for her) looked like a library. For each person it is different depending on what was important to them. In this library, there was Ms. Elm who was the girl's librarian as a young child. In this library, it was full of an infinite amount of books which were all different lives if she had made a different choice. One life was that she decided to continue with swimming and her dream to be in the Olympics. In this life, she was famous and confident and in the best shape of her life. In another, she was an alcoholic and in an abusive relationship. It's truly interesting how every little decision you make can change the complete outcome of your life. If you had chosen to take the left path instead of the right then maybe you would've met your soulmate or found a winning lottery ticket. That little choice of which way to walk and when causes a chain reaction of events. If you found a winning lottery ticket, then you would likely not have to work or worry about money, but since you chose to walk the right path, you will continue your life struggling to find rent money. 
In Midnight Library, we were able to see exactly which decision changed the outcome of Nora's life. She chose to continue pleasing her dad which allowed her to be a famous and rich Olympic swimmer. In this life, this caused her father not to die when he did in her base life. This choice also broke up her parents' marriage as her mother didn't agree with how much the father pushed Nora into his dream life. Another choice was that she continued playing around with her brother and their band in middle school instead of quitting. This had caused her brother to overdose, she was rich and famous, and she dated a famous celebrity. 
In Locke & Key, they don't get to see if they made a different choice how it would've changed the outcome, but they have to make each choice very carefully as one slip up could cost so many lives.
