They are being forced from Myanmar because the Buddhist population in Myanmar, which is 90% Buddhist, want to destroy the Rohingya Muslims. In 2017, Myanmar soldiers started burning down houses and villages, and the Rohingya have been discriminated against because they are the minority. There is so much discrimination against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar that villages and towns are being wiped out and many are being forced to leave. Anti-Rohingya hate has spread and many are being killed. Almost 700,000 Rohingya Muslims are living in refugee camps on the Bangladesh border, and 7,000 were killed. Even if Rohingya Muslims were allowed to go back to Myanmar, many of them wouldn’t have a place to stay. The camps that many Rohingya Muslims are living in now barely have adequate shelter, and there are shortages of food, water, and medicine. Thousands of refugees are fleeing from Myanmar, and they need a place to stay. Most of them are in refugee camps near the Bangladesh border, but those camps are crowded and unsanitary. To help refugees, countries could open their borders. Countries could also provide aid to those in refugee camps, and even something like donating money to help people in refugee camps could impact so many people. Also, the killing of Rohingya Muslims is a crime against humanity and genocide. If we do not stop this now, hundreds more Rohingya Muslims could die. Hate could spread to other countries, and more people could die. We need to stop this now and spread peace instead of hate. Also, the UN security council is currently investigating the genocide, and it has appealed to Myanmar to stop persecuting the Rohingya Muslims. The US provided nearly $300 million in aid for refugees, and Bangladesh is setting up more camps for refugees fleeing Myanmar. Also, the UK is giving £59 million to support those fleeing to Bangladesh. We live in a tiny hut near the edge of the Bangladesh border, and I long for my old house. When we fled Myanmar, we had to leave everything behind. I miss my house, and I wish we did not have to live here. We have to walk long distances for water, food, and medicine. There are many sicknesses, and I am worried I might become ill. There are so many people here, and so many of them have lost relatives or friends. I am extremely thankful that everyone in my family was able to make it to the refugee camps, and that we are all well.
