Like not going to his Uncle Reggie's clinic and also said that he didn't want braces after he heard how much they cost even though he was insecure about his teeth and did not smile for a year. I think that Albert is more caring in this relationship because he still tried to be nice and thoughtful about his son. Firstly, he bought braces for his son as his teeth was not straightened and it looked ugly. Although his son did not want the braces and the braces being expensive, he still bought it, which meant that he sacrificed his money for his son's health. Secondly, when Ben tried to make pratas to remember his mother and requested for help, Albert did not hesitate to assist him, although he hated the fact that Ben had made the kitchen oily and messy, showing his care towards Ben by helping him when he needed. Albert tried to help his son by getting him braces, and suffering in silence, not wanting to voice out how he has to pay in instalments and in fact, more, for Ben's braces compared to having one done in a government dental clinic. He knew that his son was emotionally hurt and wanted to do his best to help. Therefore suffering in silence and working harder just to make ends meet.

On the other perspective, Ben also knew that his father had not fully gotten over his wife's death and tried bringing it up to help, not knowing it would anger his father. I believe that both characters are equally caring because even though their way of showing their care for each other is different, they still care for each other a lot. Ben shows his care for his father more openly, right in front of his father, by asking if he can talk to his father, if they can spend time together to make the prata's. However, Albert does not show his care for Ben openly and does it 'behind the scenes', by doing things such as packing sandwiches for Ben's lunch, buying Ben braces to fix his teeth so that he wont be made fun of by others even despite not having the money for it. i believe that both characters are equally caring towards each other, they express their care and concern for the other party through different ways.
Ben's way of showing his care is by directly telling him they should spend more time together, considering how much money his dad should spend on him as they are tight on money and also asking about his shift. I think that Ben should not look through his father's drawers and see how much he had spend on the dental clinic, but he looked through the drawer because he cares for his father and is worried that he might spend too much money on himself, hence he did not want any braces and persisted that he should go to government's clinic instead as it is much cheaper there.
Albert's way of showing his care is the opposite of Ben. He does not show it directly but more indirectly. For example, he prepares lunchboxes for him, paying braces for Ben so that he would not be teased by other kids, cleaning the kitchen after Ben uses it to make pratas and also despite saying he does not remember how to make pratas, he still does it till the dinner and makes it for Ben.
I think each of them has their different ways of showing care and concern and their care towards each other is equally the same.

This includes Albert bringing strawberries from his job for Ben, he paid for braces for Ben's teeth despite Ben insisting that he didn't need them because he didn't want Ben to bullied, helping Ben make pratas for girlfriend Sushila, cemented the garden so Ben could practise basketball, and made pratas for Ben. i personally feel that Albert is the more caring person in this relationship because firstly, he bought braces for Ben even when he said that he didn't need them anymore. Albert knew that it was only because it was expensive at the government clinic so he was willing to pay more at Uncle Riggie's clinic in order for Ben to get braces. One other reason for him getting Ben his braces is also because he didn't want Ben to be called anymore names because of his teeth. Secondly, he tried to help Ben make his ma's Prata even though he himself didn't remember well. Furthermore, Albert has done many other things for him like cementing the the garden so he could play basketball, checking his bag and arranging tuition for his weaker subjects and measuring him while he's asleep so that he could buy clothes that would fit him. I believe that Albert is the more caring character because in my opinion, Albert has done more things that Ben may not see.
I can see this when first of all, Albert spent a lot of money for braces for Ben so that Ben would stop being bullied by others and smile without being ashamed of his teeth. Another can be seen when Albert would know exactly what Ben needed in his life like tuition, going through his books so that he would know what Ben would need in terms of his academics.
A Third reason would be the clothes that Ben would wear by measuring him in his sleep so that they would fit perfectly.

I believe that both characters are equally caring. They both did things that show their care for each other. Albert is always doing little things for his son, like getting strawberries for his son, going through his schoolwork while he was asleep, and measuring him to get him clothes. He even got braces for Ben when he could barely afford them because Ben got bullied and felt insecure about it. It also goes down to Albert trying to hide the dental bills so Ben doesn't worry about it.
Ben tries to know about the things his father does. When he heard about bills from the dental clinic and found out it wasn't for his father, he went to find out what it was about and argued that he didn't need it. Ben also is the one that led Albert to realise that maybe he is forgetting his wife. Ben is the one that made his father realise that he is not like his mom but it still is perfect.

Ben had specifically told his father that making pratas was a chance for them to spend time together, showing that he was longing for a reconnection with his father. Another point that he wants to reconnect with his father is that he was genuine. When you are genuine with someone, you show that you value that relationship, which Ben does. Ben knows that he made a mess so he tells Albert that he was "Sorry for the mess". This shows that he respects that his father would like his kitchen clean and is genuinely sorry for making a mess as he did it twice.

Albert can also be seen caring for his son even though Ben doesn't see it sometimes.
