In some parts of the world the economy is controlled by military dictatorships or nations at war. Governments controlled by military dictatorships is controlled by armed forces military leaders make decisions avout production and distribuition of goods and services. Today there are many countries in Africa and Asia which have this government. In many of these dictatorships people live in pouverty and have limited chance of eduction or access in health care. Many countries spend heavily on military often than other social services. U.S.A has a military spending [% of GDP] is 4.1 and education spending [% of GDP] id 4.7 which is extremly close for a North American country

Canada at War

During the first and second world wars,

Canada's economy was controled by the government.

Canada and other nations involved in

the wars switched to an economy based on machinary and weapons.

for example, factories that normally made cars or home applainces

made military equipment instead.

goverments involved in the wars switched from a market economy to a

command economy.

Canada was a big part of the wars and needed suplies to help.

Command Economy: an economic system in which the

government controls all production and distribution of goods

and services.

- In a command economy production and distribution are

directed by one person or a small group of people who form

the government.

- If one person takes over a project of some sort it becomes a

command economy. That person makes all the decisions while

the rest of the group takes orders.

- In countries with command economies one person dictates

the answers to all economic questions and everyone else has

to obey or face the consequences.

- e.g. Cuba – is a communist command economy

- government decides what to produce and how to distribute goods and services

- Cubans live with basic necessities, and deal with shortages of consumer products

- Cuban govt provides free education, daycare, & health care

- Communist governments are found in 5 countries: China, Cuba, Laos, North Korea, and Vietnam
