What's an observation of how your group worked together on the KWL? Or did you choose to work alone and why was this your choice? by Theresa Carrio

Consider how working in your group affected you or how you saw the group working collaboratively in efforts to broaden our community voice. Or, consider how having a choice to work alone contributed to your work.

I decided to work on my KWL individually, to give myself time to look into my ideas thoroughly. I felt that I got to learn a bit more about social constructivism which was my choice, and work on my individual understanding of the concept, as well as explore what it looks like and what pieces are missing. However it could have been nice to have had another person to lean on, and bounce ideas back and forth. I definitely love group/ partner work, and think it is one of the best ways to gain understanding and new perspective but I also believe that having space to work individually can be important to learn how to work on your own and problem solve. Overall I thought this assignment was helpful and furthering my knowledge in my chosen topic.

I love working in groups normally but being asynchronous sometimes makes that challenging. I am a new mom so also carving out space and time to work this semester has been challenging. It's me not you!!! haha!
My observation about this assignment though, and an overall strength of this course, is how helpful its been to my learning experience to review theory and ideologies throughout the past several weeks. It's been a minute since I've thought about my teaching philosophy so this was helpful in regrounding me in the literature and ideas.

Hello,
For this assignment, I decided to work by myself. I will be honest, I felt like fewer students chose Behaviorism which is the theory I wanted to focus on. I decided to work by myself and I enjoyed it thoroughly. As I was doing the assignment, I wrote down the things that I already knew about Behaviorism but working by myself allowed me to think outside of the box and I wrote down a few things that I wanted to learn about this. I would love to hear other classmates' and instructor's feedback but working individually allowed me to have more efficiency. I could focus more on one thing and there was very much less distraction. Also, I have a very tight schedule so I try my best to get things/assignments done whenever possible even when I have only 5 minutes. If I were to be in a group, I have to set a specific schedule for it which is hard for me. Overall, this assignment helped me to explore. Through this assignment, I learned quite a few things because I am always curious to make myself better for students and I wanted to use all the strategies, techniques, knowledge, and experience to make my future classroom better, informative, and great for students.

At first I really wanted to work by myself because I'm just so busy and I know a lot of other people are as well. Then I watched both of the videos for the week. They made me consider if I would benefit as much from the assignment if I did it on my own than work in a group. I of course already knew the answer for that and checked the slides to see if anyone was looking for a partner. I also considered if this was a philosophy I say I align with, then shouldn't I work in the style of the philosophy that I want my students to work in?

Megan and I worked over zoom together and did the assignment in real time. I liked that we both had input and we discussed what we each knew about social constructivism. I also was able to listen to ideas that caught her attention that were not things that caught my attention. I was able to learn why certain things caught her attention. I believe I learned more this way than I would have on my own. Also the assignment was done quickly as a team, I see that as a plus. Now I leave you with the words of the immortal wonder pets, "what's gonna work? Teamwork!"

That led me to have freedom on what I produced, and I am glad that I was able to learn quite a bit! I did lots of research when my interest was sparked on implementing Behavior Theory for students with disabilities or special needs. My thoughts on this whole assignment was a positive. I enjoyed recollecting what I have learned over the years! I also enjoyed reading the other slides and learning about my various classmates' thoughts and set of knowledge they already had!

Unfortunately, my tight schedule this week would make it very unfair for any person that were to team up with me.
The structure of this assignment actually allowed me to have a simulation of the group experience by being able to view everyone's contributions and combine their learning with my own. Group work does not necessarily mean face-to-face. Thank you everyone for being in my group.

Good Afternoon,
I decided to work on this assignment by myself. I chose to work alone because of my crazy schedule and because it allows me to work on my assignments at my own pace and create my own understanding. I chose to make my KWL slide on Social Constructivism because I really like this teaching philosophy and how interactive it is with the students. I am also a big believer that students learn from each other and when they are having fun. I have a very hard time working in groups because of my insane schedule, working two jobs and being a single parent on top of a full course load is a little overwhelming at times and it is even more difficult when you are trying to schedule a time that all the members of the group can get together. This assignment helps me think about what I have learned and helps me explore more about this philosophy and how it could be implemented in my own classroom in the future.

I chose to work alone on this assignment because for me being a full-time teacher already it can make it hard to communicate with a group. I am still getting into the groove of teaching and lesson planning and I do not have much open time to work back and forth with another person at this time. I do love working in groups in big assignments because it lessens the load, and creates that collaboration. I just think with a smaller assignment like this it is easier to just do it myself, and get it done when is the most convenient for me.

Hi everyone I hope you're having a good day. I worked on this assignment by myself. I used the assignment to learn from everyone else's work and to reflect on my own knowledge. In our current environment, with this class being online and everyone having busy schedules, I knew it would be hard to coordinate a time to work with someone. I enjoy working with others and find group work to be fun, but sometimes it's easier just to get something done and over with. Even though I worked by myself on this, I still feel like I collaborated with everyone in the class because I was able to see what they were doing.

I chose to work alone on this assignment for two reasons. First, I had family visiting this week. With multiple big assignments due and other work around the house to finish before winter, I didn't I'd be able to dedicate the time required to fulfill my part of group work on time. It wouldn't be fair to put my partner to put them in a situation that made them wait for me to get the time to do my part of the assignment. Second, I work better allone. Colaborative work is great, but I find I do my best when I am allowed to think and build on ideas for myself. I was generally the kid who felt challanged to work against other children (I was very competative in order to build a sense of self-worth) so I have trained myself to be an active listener over a coperative doer.

I chose to work on this assignment alone. I think that there is a significant variance in how students learn and I recognize that my individualized approach to learning does not necessarily fit with everyone. As a consequence, I prefer approaching teaching through a primarily social constructivist philosophy. I perceive the benefits that group work provides to the a significant portion of learners, however I am not one of them. I do my best thinking when I am not having to engage with others. In a sense it takes less of my allotted cognitive memory to work individually rather than having to try to remain in tune with the others.

I also have always felt more in control doing projects solo for school assignments, I can understand the function as it being a great tool to work with others, but for me I like the feeling of being able to work in my own way with out relying on others or feeling like I am stepping on any toes. Ironically, I chose Social Constructivism, I love discussion in class, but when it comes to assignments and homework, I view this as the time for me to digest the material and prepare for in person/classroom discussion.

I did my slide on both Social and Cognitive Constructivism although I think I went more with social at the end. Both of these teaching philosophies are important to include in a class having that balance of them because since all students are different different backgrounds different learning styles having a commination of different philosophies in a classroom help with the different type of students you have. It was really great learning from other students and I loved the videos that were shared by some of our classmates.
