Hi everyone, I would like to present my school to you! My school is called Don Bosco School and it´s a Secondary School of Economic Professions. My school is named after Giovanni Bosco, an Italian priest, and he was the founder of the order SDB, the Salesians of Don Bosco. My school is situated in a town called Vöcklabruck in Upper Austria and about 600 students - mostly girls - attend this Catholic private school. Moreover, several nuns and a bishop call the school building their home. In my school, we have a restaurant where students cook for students, teachers, nuns and other guests. The menus become more complicated every schoolyear and I also learn how to serve them in our restaurant. In the third year, students have to do an internship for three months to get work experience during the summer break. The pupils can decide themselves if they want to stay in Austria or do their internship in a foreign country. In their fourth year, they have practical exams in cooking and serving and if they succeed, they are professional chefs and waitresses. Then I registered and looked through the platform. Then I called the National Agency and asked for help on how to start my own project. ETwinning was not known at our school. I was the first one who worked with. After a short briefing I started with a french colleague the first project ("Revisiting grandmothers recipes). I asked my colleagues to join in and work together. And it immediately became the best project in Austria (2018). At the conference in our school I presented our project, then it was relatively easy. Everyone wanted to know more and if they could do such a project too. Newspaper articles have been published, I gave lectures about our project at our school in Vienna at the eTwinning Danube Region Conference and at the Austrian Meeting of the Food Experts. At the next project four teachers of my school were involved. And a colleague already started her own. More classes were involved. And the interest continued to grow. Especially because the students were very enthusiastic and told the other teachers about our projects. For questions I always supported them and helped them further. This year we started an Erasmus + partnership project and the base will again be an eTwinning project. New teachers with other subjects have joined again. An eTWinning beginner seminar at our school is planned….
My role is to support my colleagues in different ways. Help them to know how the platform is working, find partners, help them with different e-learining or digital tools, and to encourage other people to dive in to eTwinning.
The most dedicated and motivated person in my school is me. I start a project, and then I ask my colleagues if they join. Language teachers are there, but also cooking teachers, ICT teachers, economics teachers are involved. They are very enthusiastic and do everything. It would be really great if several would start a project. Most do not dare because they think they can not speak enough foreign language. It would be nice to include more teachers in the team. But maybe it happens soon.
