I did appreciate the order that exists at BC as well as the community that develops amongst the students that travel together during the day.

1. I anticipated seeing growth, both in the student I was shadowing and the other students in her classes.
1. What surprised me was how much maturation I saw in less than a year. There were several students who struggled in the MS; however, I saw them thriving in the HS classes. The one year of maturity made a world of difference for some of these students.
1. The impact this experience had on me was profound. One, I realized that our students continued to grow, which was a credit to the hard work our staff put in for the two years they had those students. Two, middle school is really, really tough! The high school is a much bigger world, and students are exposed to more options, both academically and in extra-curriculars. As a leader, I have to continue to see the big picture and not just focus on the here and now. We are preparing students for the rest of their lives. As such, I have to continue to lead with the end in mind.

1. I anticipated that I would be very busy with little down time in the Kindergarten class as a lot of material would be covered in a short amount of time..
2. A surprise for me was the teacher had all the ELD students and was able to speak Spanish to help with instruction. In addition, she also instructed the entire class in Spanish during carpet time. Also, independent learning stations that students were able to handle with little hesitation or disciplinary issues.
3. One impact for me as a leader was that I was able to reflect on secondary teacher versus primary teacher instructional time and have it take me back to my early years of teaching.

What surprised me was the small class size and the incidental conversations unrelated to the content. My impression is that on level was treated more in more of an industrial mindset.
