It may be hard to believe, but even in the 21st Century, not everyone has access to technology. Digital Access means that teachers and other staff members need to be aware of this and make technology available for everyone to use at school.

Students are not always aware of the consequences of their actions over the internet, especially when being active consumers. It is partly the teachers responsibility to help their students understand the fall out of thoughtless spending, and need to learn how to navigate online purchasing, this includes being conscious of payment methods used, and what websites are being used for purchases.

Nowadays, people tend to forget that what is on the internet lasts forever. What they post and what they say will be there, right under the surface, for as long as computers exist. Students also need to be made aware that although communicating through technology is convenient, and easy, sometimes it is better to talk to someone face to face. This way less mistakes can be made, and miscommunication is less common. This theme also drives in that technology should not be a life source, and while it is useful, it does not solve everything, and face to face speaking skills should still be learned.

Students should be taught properly about technology and how to use said technology. They should also take advantage of educational opportunities and teachers should teach them appropriate methods of navigating the internet. In order to do this teachers must also be trained on digital literacy, this will help with less mistakes and more knowledge about the tech world.

In the past it was the job of a parent to teach their child how to safely, properly, and smartly use the web before reaching school age. Unfortunately, there are more and more parents who are less informed about the internet. It seems that school technology teams tend to be better equipped to teach these kids how to navigate, as a result they can teach their parents instead of parents teaching them.

Students need to learn responsibility for their actions. A lot of times students will do something stupid on the internet without realizing that this is illegal, and will use this as an excuse, which is not acceptable and should not happen. Understanding this theme will help students avoid making mistakes and possibly getting in trouble with the law, and will erase the phrase "I did not know" from their vocabulary.

It is imperative for students to stay both mentally and physically well, while using the internet. As a responsible user, you must be aware of the dangers virtually and in reality. Students should be able to reach their computer if they are younger, and correct posture should always be used at the computer. There should be limited time on the computer to ensure the well-being of the user's mind. Be aware of who you are talking to, and do not make dumb choices when talking to strangers online.

There could be sensitive information stored on your computer, and the failure to keep it secure could result in viruses or hackers getting in.
