Jefferson Davis was born on June 3 1808 in Fairview, Kentucky to a rather successful farmer as a dad, and a brother that owned multiple plantations in Mississippi and Louisiana. As a child, he moved twice in he South while his ten siblings fought in the War of 1812. He went to a Catholic School at the age of seven and made a lot of trips to study at several colleges at a very young age.

Jefferson was enrolled into the United States Military Academy (West point) when he was 16. While there he was known as a trouble maker, but still graduated 23rd in his class in 1828 when he was 20. He had several marriages in the next ten years including dating future president, Zachary Taylor's daughter, Sarah Knox Taylor for a while. He later married Varina Banks Howell and had six children with her. Jefferson Davis was known to get quite ill a lot and was considered to be in poor health most of his life. He suffered from Malaria more than once in his lifetime, and had a chronic eye-infection that bothered him in daylight. He also had a disorder called trigeminal neuralgia for most of his life, known to be particular painful effecting nerves in his face. Although Jefferson was known to be in such low health, he had always wanted to fight in battles. His first taste of combat was in 1832 when he helped fight in the Black Hawk war against the Black Hawk Tribe for the U.S to claim all of the land East of the Mississippi. The Black Hawk leader was lead to prison by Davis himself.

Davis fought in the Mexican American War as a colonel under the command of future president, Zachary Taylor. He participated in the battle of Monterrey and was known as a hard working soldier who helped defeat the Mexicans. In January, 1848, Davis was elected as a Senator for Mississippi and served there for two years until late 1849, he was elected for six more full years. Jefferson Davis had a clear political impact on the South as he campaigned for the presidential election in 1852. He didn't win, but the eventual winner, Franklin Piece, elected Davis as his Secretary of War in 1853. He served under him until 1857, when a new president was chosen. He went back to being a Senator in Mississippi but in 1860, president Lincoln was elected. During that time, it was clear that he didn't agree with Lincoln and what he had in mind for the United States. Davis eventually resigned from being Senator during the secession crisis, saying it was the "Saddest day of my life."

In 1861, Jefferson Davis was chosen to be the president of the Confederacy, as the Civil War was on the horizon. Although he didn't want to secede, he knew that it was his responsibility to lead the Confederacy to win the war. Davis worked really hard while president but had many flaws that were clearly shown repeatedly. He was not able to control opposing Congress as well as Lincoln and was not able to inspire the people of the South to fight for the Confederacy. He also was known to not work well with others and constantly misjudged people, protecting non-intelligent people while also pushing away other talented men. The combination of his incompetent attitude and his inability to lead the Confederacy led to him fleeing with his family to the deep South from Richmond, Virginia when the city was surrounded. He was eventually caught in Georgia in 1865, as the war ended, and was charged for treason.

Jefferson Davis' life after the war was rather sad, as he was put in jail for two years, following being charged of treason. He was released in 1867, but was never the same, he emotionally deteriorated, and could never get his life back on track. He tried to make a living in America but never succeeded as he was just not the same person. He died in New Orleans in 1889 at the age of 81 after losing consciousness and dying in bed.
