 The woman acted this way because she thought it was her cookies when it was actually the boy and the boy acted this way because he thought the old woman wanted some of her cookie.

She acted they way she did because after finally getting her cookies out of the vending machine a boy eats them, but that was not what was happening,which she doesn't realize till later. The boy's perspective was that an old lady was just taking his cookies for no reason, when he saw the old lady taking his cookies he doesn't say anything but he eats the cookies right in front of her. He acted like that because he was suprised of the fact that an old lady was eating his cookies but he treated her with respect.
