Every school year principals need to complete a budget that reflects the resources they will need. This includes important communication to human resources and the finance office, so they will know how many teachers will be needed and what salary/benefits will be required. In addition to staffing, it is important to know why types of students will be attending the school: general, special education, gifts, or English language learners. This will help determine how much money the school has to work with.

You can’t have human resources or finance without the other. These two departments have to work together to maintain a smooth operation. Human resources and finance deal with a lot of the same issues, yet deal with them differently. Human resources hire, fires, and grows the school division – they work with “the people”. Finance plans the budget, and tells human resources how much money can be spent on new hires, promotions, individual school budgets, benefits, and trainings. With communication between the two, the school division would most likely fail to be successful. Human resources and finance both rely on the building principals to communicate their enrollment for each school year as well as number of teachers that will be returning, transferring, or leaving the school.
