To me this picture sums up the story. The heart can be the new person that the main character has found and the ocean tide will soon wash away it away. It will be broken and gone just like that new found hope.

The picture is of my mom. Although she never bluntly told me all of these things, she has always shared her knowledge with me and tried her best to shape me into a well rounded lady.

Glaspell's "Trifles"

This bird cage says so many things. The story tells us that Mrs. Wright was so unhappy in her marriage. By killing her husband, she was freed from her cage. The bird is ironically the evidence that could have put her in jail for killing her husband.

Gilman's "Yellow Wallpaper"

If Forst Gump's house is not the one that pops into your mind while reading this story, I have no idea what you're imagining. This house also represented the place that Forest ran to when his legs were getting better, where his mother had to be nursed, and where he eventually settles down. Like the story it is a place for healing and growth but, unlike the story, the people living here do not feel trapped.

Ibsen's "A Doll's House"

The song Funhouse by Pink reminds me of this story through and through. By the end she wants to burn the house down.

Ralph Ellison's "Battle Royal"

Jamey Johnson's song "You Should Have Seen It in Color" is a perfect song to go along with this story. The song tells many stories in detail but also says the picture is nothing close to how it really was. Just like this story. We do not really know the pain that these things caused. The short story can only tell us so much without experiencing it.

This is the Gallaria in Dallas. Every time we go to Texas, I go to this mall. Each time I regret it because I cannot afford any of the stores. As with the kids in "The Lesson", it is motivation for me.

Of course I thought of Girl Scout cookies while reading this story. Although it doesn't really relate to the girl's struggle with racism at such a young age, it's what I think of when I see brownie troops.

I chose a bible for this story because I keep all of my special things in my bible. I think everyone can relate to having those precious items, no matter what they be, that help remind us that our lives are beautiful and worth living.

The image describes it all to me. The man is clearly going insane but there is no outside factor contributing to it. He is just trapped inside his mind.
