Kenneth Goldsmith criticizes the use of technology and how it is "wasting time". He also sees both sides how it can be both good and bad. Some benefits include learning new things from articles. For the bad part, he explained how it effects his family life. He mentioned that his wife was reading a book on her tablet and hadn't moved for hours. It stated in the reading, "I said goodnight, she didn't even look up". His biased opinion ends up being that this new technology (phones and tablets) is a distraction in people's everyday lives.

Chapter 7 of They Say I Say talks about the importance of answering the questions “who cares” and “so what”. The chapter goes on to explain that as a writer who has clear understanding of why you are writing what you are doesn’t mean your audience does. If these questions are not answered from the very beginning you run the risk of losing your audience attention. When these questions are answered you keep your audience engaged and a reason to care and pay attention.

Frequently, when students have trouble understanding
difficult texts, it is not just because the texts contain unfamiliar ideas or words but also because the texts rely on subtle clues to let readers know when a
particular view should be attributed to the writer or to someone else.
Chapter 5 tells us about the importance of dialogue. To not confuse your audience the writer or author will need to use voice-identifying devices in order for the audience van know who is say what.
