-Teachers said they appreciated having a flexible schedule where they can pick a time each week to come in instead of having a set schedule.
-They also liked that the librarian gave them a couple of weeks at the beginning of the year to get their feet wet, and then approached them
-Make the library flexible and easily accessible- let students check out at any time with self-checkout.
-The library can provide an outlet for a change of pace and setting with a rich literacy background for students!
-Tailor your lessons around what the teachers are working on- ask for lesson plans, then try to help them with a hook/intro lesson or an extension.
-Build relationships with the teachers to build that trust and offer help. Be persistent about wanting to help the teachers.
-Be the teachers' solution!
-Go after the new teachers to gain the trust of a team.
-Schedule ideas: Have first hour of every day reserved for kinder and first with a read-aloud, lesson, and checkout (especially in the first semester). Then the rest of the day is flexible (with one 11:00-12:00 conference/lunch with Friday bookclub lunch).
-Teachers said that time, trust, and set schedules are the biggest obstacles to collaboration. Be willing to come bring lessons to their classrooms, especially at times when the library is closed.
