We were told then that we wouldn’t have school on Monday. Everyone was yelling in excitement. Then it was extended to the week, everyone still very glad of it. Afterwards, it was announced that we would have online classes. Many students took advantage to cheat and play games. Cameras were then required to stay on. After a long while, we could come to school for classes, wearing masks of course. New rules were implemented and in the third quarter, I began to come back to school in person. Then I began to do swim again, and everything began to feel normal again. Then vaccines came out for most people, then people 16 years old or more, then pregnant women, and soon for people 12 and older. I feel that soon, everything will be back to normal, without masks, with hand sanitizer and toilet paper in stock, and being able to hang out with friends. This gravely impacts my life because the vaccine does not prevent one from catching the virus. All it does is protect you from being affected when you have it. Therefore, whether vaccinated or not, one can spread it. People with the vaccine catch it, then spread it to the children that are under 16 and can’t get the vaccine because of their lack of masks, and then those children die or are severely injured. I see this statement as ignorant and selfish. The people working there aren’t considering anyone but themselves. My whole family agrees with me on this and do not remove their masks outside despite being vaccinated. It worries me that thousands or even millions of people who are sick of masks will take it off and start to celebrate and hold large events. After that, all the parents will spread it to their children, killing countless people. My mother won’t even go to work in person until the owners demand employees wear masks. Before this statement was even issued, my mother went once and saw that close to none wore their masks. First of all, I would tell myself to go in person the first quarter of eighth grade. Being away from school without talking to friends or having any social interactions gravely impacted my grades for the first quarters. Secondly, I would say to do what I enjoy doing. At the time, I wanted to draw, but didn’t do it. Now, I draw in my spare time and I love doing it. If I had done it then, I would of had more fun. Whether I can draw or not, Its fun to do it, and the more I do it, the better I get at it. I would also say to enjoy the outdoors, and be happy to still be able to say hi or enjoy the movie theatre with my friends or family. It would be to enjoy what I had then that I don’t now. Lastly, I would explain the exemption system of the midterms and finals earlier, to have been able to exempt more classes by doing extra credit assignments or things that are similar to it. • How do you feel about how you have had to deal or your experiences with COVID-19 over the past year?
-There are multiple aspects of it. When it comes to work, I enjoyed working from home, I had a lot more work so I was extremely busy, and that was good! When it comes to family, I felt helpless in providing my son a better environment for studying. I also felt the stress of my son not being able to meet in person with his friends. Now that things are going back to normal, I am horrified to notice that a whole year of my life seems to have vanished in thin air. Even though I worked a lot I don’t feel I lived a lot. I am grateful for being able to sustain mostly the same life and not suffering any close losses to COVID, but I feel like it was too much time to stop doing everything but work.
• How do you feel about quarantine?
- I feel like it lasted longer than it needed to because no one took leadership in defining a path to recovery. Instead, our leaders closed their eyes and just waited for the vaccine while feeding people lies.
• How do you feel about the vaccine roll out?
- I feel it went well, yet it’s unfortunate so many people are against it still.
