Evidence:
Nurse Rached abuses her power with the way she runs her group therapy sessions. She makes the patients feel uncomfortable through the expressions on her face. What are her expressions? Explain how she runs the sessions - probing questions, manipulative language "Doesn't any man here have an opinion on the matter?" Insinuate they aren't real men. (Emasculation)

Patients wanted to watch the World Series. All the acutes voted and Nurse Rached said that that wasn't enough for the whole ward. When Randle got enough votes through Chief, Ratched says that the meeting was finished. Film Techniques? Our response to Randle's joy (body language, vocal work) compared with our frustration and disappointment when Ratched nullifies the vote. Mid-shot on Chief's hand slowly raising.

Even after Billy Bibbit has killed himself, Nurse Ratched's biggest concern is making sure the patients of the hospital stick to their daily routine. This is what pushes McMurphy over the edge and makes him want to strangle her.

Camera work/cinematography:
Birds eye close up of Randle getting shock therapy (Quite horrific)

Effect:
Makes us feel like we're to involved andn= feels as if we're forced to watch/we have no choice but to witness

Dialogue:
"You wait your turn Chezwick!"
"Your mum and I are good friends Billy...You should of thought about that before you went into the room with that women"
"The meeting has been adjourned. The voting is closed "
"The best thing we can do is go on with our daily routine."

Nurse Ratched is presented as a figure of authority who emasculates the male patients. Specifically seen through group therapy sessions.

Females are presented as either evil, or as sexual objects.

Through McMurphy we see his sexist view on life
•Females high in authority are presented as evil
e.g Nurse Ratched’s black costume. Black is seen as a colour that represents strength, seriousness, power and authority. Black is also a mysterious colour. We always see Nurse Ratched through McMurphy’s sexist eyes, but we don’t see her true nature as she could be just doing her job.
•Females who are easily manipulated e.g Prostitutes “Candy” are viewed as good. McMurphy can call up Candy whenever and she’ll listen and follow his orders. Specific scenes where this is shown is the Party scene where he gets Candy to take Billy’s virginity

With Harding, we find out about his fear of his wife. We hear about his wife and his fear of infidelity, but he has no control over anything but his seek of therapy for his temper.
