On page 21 it says, "Laden with presents for our relatives..." This made me think Malala's family is more wealthy than I initially thought. I am also realizing that her family is trying to take care of their other family members who live further away in the mountain village, since they bring them medicine. I also thought she was living in a more remote area, but this made it seem like she lives in a city.

on page 15 it states that ¨badel-a tradition of revenge-where on insalt must be answed by another.¨ This made me think that why would malala´s mother get unset at malala and thought that she knew better for taking things that were not hers when it was part of her culture to do that if someone took something, you would take something right back. Like when malala thought her friend safina took her pink phone so malala took some of her jewery right back for revenge.

On page 19 it says "My father paid no mind to these customs. I've seen my name-in bright blue ink-right there among the males names of our family tree." This made me think that maybe Malala's father could get into some trouble with the TTP and the TNSM for not following some of the customs that are about woman/girls and are some what important to there culture and the TTP/TNSM.

Every girl in Pakistan wore one. Some girls schools made the children wear a burqa which covered them completely.
Although for their culture I realize it might be a big deal but, now I realize that you have to want to wear the headscarf, because the only reason they wear them in so that nobody but their family can see what they really look like. In the book it says that when the girls turn thirteen, they have to wear headscarves. Why? I think that they would just do that to be respectful to the law, but is it really crucial to wear the scarves? Will something bad happen if they (the girls) don't? I just can't seem to grasp the idea that they HAVE to hide their faces from the other people. Why do they HAVE to wear the scarves in general?!

But as the book went on and she started to describe herself, I realized that she likes the same kind of games and foods as I think most of us reading do. Thats when I thought tht Malala was just going to hide in the shadows like most other girls in her town. But then when she decides that she doesn't want to wear a burqa, it kind of shows you a little bit of the personality I thought she was going to have, where she stands up against problems that she thinks are not right.

Something that is true in the story and the world is that this actually happens. Its sad. Whats happening in this book reminds me of the Afghanistan war, people dying left and right, the terrorists destroying everyone hopes and dreams. this is actually happening and is disappointing what our world has come to.
