How does the SDG of Qallity education link to the issue of Child labour and how does the Quality education SDG impact globalisation

This emotive quote displays the clear connection between the issue of child labour and the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of Quality Education. This quote highlights the importance of a quality education in the crucial stages of childhood when a life can be altered by physical labour as a child. The quote stresses the serious issue that children’s hands are not made for labour but for holding a pencil which symbolises learning and education in childhood, as it is essential for a child to receive a quality education for a better chance of a successful future. Labour prevents children from a quality education which as a result, limits their future opportunities and their life. By ensuring that children have access to a quality education, they are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society.

Quality education also links to globalisation because it positively impacts globalisation as quality education promotes the idea of global citizenship to children, and emphasises the responsibilities that individuals have for the global community. It encourages students to think beyond themselves and consider the broader impacts of their actions on the world. This mindset is essential for addressing important global challenges including climate change, poverty, and inequality, which require international help to minimise these issues and this mindset can be learnt through receiving a quality education. The SDG of Quality education is aiming to ensure that children, regardless of their background, economic class or location, have access to essential knowledge and skills. This empowers people to participate more effectively in the global economy. As globalization increases interconnectedness and competition, having a well-educated workforce becomes crucial for countries to remain competitive in the global marketplace and reduces poverty for the child compared to child labour because if a child is uneducated, it will be very difficult for them to get a good job when they grow up.

In summary, the SDG of quality education plays a crucial role in preparing individuals to participate in and contribute to globalization by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to thrive in an interconnected world.

In developing countries like Nigeria, the causes of child labour are complex, but lack of available education and poverty are the primary factors that keep children in labour and out of school.

Poverty is one major factor keeping children in labour and out of schools. This is because families in poverty can’t afford school fees and chose child labour out of absolute necessity. It is estimated 38.9% of Nigerian families live below the poverty line, unable to afford the basic needs like food and housing for their families are forced to put their children into labour to support their families. Poverty in countries like Nigeria is hard to break out of, especially with unemployment, poor education and corruption becoming increasingly common problems.

The other factor keeping child labour an issue in Nigeria is lack of education. This issue branches from the underfunding that the education sector in Nigeria receives. This has resulted in qualified teacher shortages and no adequate resources, and materials in schools.

Education is crucial for children, especially in developing countries where it is very difficult to break out of poverty.

Education is a much better option than child labour because it opens pathways for a child once they graduate and gives them a better chance of success. Regular attendance at school also makes child labour almost impossible and although the child will not be making any money, education is a long-term solution that will open more valuable careers when they grow up.
