Women took care of their crops and the extra food could go to the war. The typical gender-based expectations and treatment were changed because now women were running the house instead of the men. Only about 73,000 people joined the war willingly so Woodrow Wilson decided to draft people to help get more people in the war. Around 70% of Americans in WW1 were there because of the draft.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Many farmers were needed during World War I after most men were sent to war or left for better paying jobs. As many men left the agriculture industry, the U.S. government had a tough time filling the gap of workers in the industry. Women from many parts of the U.S. came together to  take over the jobs of farmers who were sent to the war. </div>]]></description>
