One side had their friend murdered and the other receives constant abuse, simply seeing the other will start a fight. In these types of scenarios you would have to "assert your dominance" by utterly defeating the other side. They realized that the type of lifestyle that they live isn't one that they want to adopt forever. The rumble indicates sort of an end to all the fighting and stupidity of sorts and gives everyone and probably Johnny as well some closure. The few that stepped out of the rumble would probably lead others to the same conclusion over time as the conflict slowly subsides and burns away.
