Once Upon a Time...
The children have been enjoying their Tee-pee story area and stories about animals remain popular. They have also loved singing songs and playing instruments along with their singing. The Small-world Area is beginning to take on a whole new identity and Evert has named it 'Animal World'. The children have created animal print cushions, which has encouraged measuring and discussions about shapes. They were fascinated to see Ms Monika using her sewing machine to sew the cushions.

The children have also been drawing and writing to think about what sounds they might hear in 'Animal World' and these range from dinosaurs to flying giraffes! As inspiration, the children have been playing a listening game in circle times. This has been an opportunity to develop the children's sound discrimination while they closed their eyes and listened to forest and jungle soundtracks. Next week, they will need to think about how to create each of their sounds. Once all of the sounds are recorded the children will use Audacity to create their soundscapes. Dinosaurs and frogs have been added to the area to inspire more role-play and story ideas. For the younger children we have been scribing their stories so that they can see the process of writing being modeled. Many of our older children are becoming confident to write their own short stories!

Forces in Motion
Transport and how different types of transport move continues to be of interest to the children. They have been very excited by setting up their own airport and this has inspired passport making, ticket making, and luggage label making...lots of opportunities for writing and mark making in a meaningful context, along with discussions about flags, identity, and finding places on the giant map. The children have been very interested in how aeroplanes work and they have worked collaboratively to design their own aeroplane. They will begin construction of this next week!

Field Trips
To connect the children's ideas around small-world role play and their interests in transport, we will take a field trip to Miniversum. You can follow this link to find video clips of Miniversum to share with your child.

Sickness
The school is experiencing absences with a range of different symptoms. If you notice your child is sick then please keep them at home to prevent sickness from spreading.

Clothing
The children have been very excited to play in the snow!! We have noticed a number of items such as hats and gloves have not been labeled. Please label all of your child's smaller items too so that we can dry them on radiators and return them to children's cubbies before home time. Please ensure your child has snow trousers and spare clothing in their cubby in case of more snowy weather.

Book Fair
