Preparing an athlete:

-All open wounds and leisure should be covered with dressing that does not allow for transmission to or from an athlete

-Occlusive dressing lessens the chances of cross-contamination

When bleeding occurs:

-Athletes must be removed from participation and returned when it is deemed safe by the medical staff

-When blood is present on a uniform, it can sometimes be removed with hydrogen peroxide, without having to remove the entire uniform
