For my school subject philosophy I had to study Latin. Later I thought this will help me to learn Italian. I failed in my second written Italian exam, but it did not put me off persevering. Today I speak Italian fairly fluently and even offered voluntary courses at school.
Exploring one's limits is an almost daily experience to me whenever I prepare for my next violoncello class. But it is all the more rewarding when eventually you manage to play a little piece of Johann Sebastian Bach.

My greatest school failure? When I went to secondary school - about 12-13 years old - my English teacher didn't appreciate me. And he told my mom; "Your daughter will never be good at English".

Students couldn't do the bridge with the given material in our activity. It was an example of failure. They tried again and again. They were sad because of the failure. They wanted to give up. I tried to encourage them. They thought that they fail again in upcoming activities. I finished that activity to do it later. They made the bridge with using their experiences.

It's not easy to cope with failures; in my CV of failures I can include my inability to pass the piano admission exam to Conservatorio, as I was not really concerned about it. I would really like to make my students do this acitivity since it sounds useful for more than one reason. First, It will obviuosly make them understand the risks involved in any initiative, but also teach them how to praise their mistakes and failures. My failures consist of the courses I was not able to finish during my European Schoolnet Academy life:
1. Creative Use of tablets in schools
2. Games in Schools 2nd Round
3. Introducing Technology Enhanced learning
4. Administering School ICT infrastructure: developing your knowledge and skills

The real failure is when we don't learn from our mistakes.
I failed for example the day I sat my Italian exam at the A-levels (maturità), as one of the title of the essay was on women in Italian literature and I had a good knowledge of the topic, but I was so scared to fail.
So I focused on the simplest title about ecology and pollution which was chosen by 18 students up to 18 and I didn't get a high mark.
I wasn't self-confident enough and I paid for that but with the passing of time I learnt how to menage with my uncertainty.

My CV of failure
First time I went to UK I needed a visa because Romania wasn't in EU.I failed it because those from the Embassy didn't trust an English teacher.Maybe they were thinking I would stay forever in UK but they gave visa to Romanian workers or drivers etc.I was very very sad and disappointed .I tried again and I managed to get it with the help of my English friend who invited me there.Another failure was when I applied for a Comenius grant.I was successful later.So I learned not to give up, be persistent , learn from your mistakes .

I often remind to my students that failures are very important steps in the learning process. I tend to say this during assignement's revision, when the main focus is on the mistakes they made. I would not tell them about my mistakes. I usually prefer to mention famous people like big managers, entrepreneus and inventors who successed after a long series of failures. They are of course more interesting and relevant than me...
I think it is easier to learn from mistakes in visible, concrete things, like drawings or objects than in abstract contexts, like a languages, music, maths

Many things in life are learned by making mistakes:

- my graduation exam was not like I wanted to but then, the university has been successful!

- I was wrong several times in love, but I also avoid living next to the wrong people!

- At school, some projects have not gone through, but others have had an excellent achievement!

I’m used to fail and I fail often, but I also succeed a lot of times. I really see the failure as a learning experience and I try to see the fun on it. Some of my latest failures:

I’m currently studying at the university and at one final exam in which I had excelled, I was in such a hurry to finish and go get my children that I forgot to put my name on it, so I had to take the test at another time!. I couldn't stop laughing at the irony of a teacher forgetting to put her name on the test! What I learnt from this is that haste make waste
I was in charge of a visit to our high school. I had two speakers and an entrepreneur waiting and nobody came. The visiting institution had forgotten¡ What I learnt from this experience is that now I always confirm the previous week with the visiting institution if they are coming yet and nothing came up

Taking risks and failing is part of our everyday activities, since we get out of bed, drive to school, ...it's a risk! But we do not give up.
Taking decisions , being responsible for our actions and trying to avoid risks, ambiguity is difficult.
This week I just finnish my Erasmus+ application form - I had an idea, introduced my ideas to partners, definned our goals, put them in an action plan, and we just took a risk - submitted the application. If not all goes at we expect, never quit, look at the project, see what was not so good, what can be changeable, what do we want together.
Planning, doing and putting in action is taking a risk.
