Make a list (preferably with student input) of kind behaviors. Post the list somewhere. Then on Thursdays, secretly pick a random behavior and do a shout out those students (or even staff members).

Maybe this is something advisory classes could be utilized for? Create a form and have each advisory class submit 1-3 ideas.

Admin each shoutout one person every Thursday that they've seen out in the hallway, in class, lunchroom, etc. being a help to someone!

Check in on a student. Someone you don't know, a new face, someone who looks like they may be having a hard time..

Write a kind message (e.g. "I know things have been hard, and you've got this! :-)") on an index card or sticky note and give it to those you know are silently suffering and/or to random students to show kindness to them during their day.

Sometimes a student only tells one teacher about their feelings/life events. We don't need to gossip, but we could have a way to know who might need to be handled with care (no details). We can give grace and space as needed, since so many people are good at masking rough times.

in addition to the paper and other shoutout ideas, we all pick a student/class/coworker and just BE KIND to them. This is especially effective if we choose someone that may not always inspire feelings of kindness (nice way to put it ). Words are nice, but actions speak louder than words. Most of us try to be kind to students every day, maybe make Thursday the day we give an extra effort over and above to be kind to those who it's hardest to be kind to.
