Throughout this class, that is tailored to educating students about caring and nonviolence, my eyes were opened to many new perspectives from seasoned veterans of life. I chose this image because in order to grow a flower you have to care for and nurture it. However, many elements go into a flowers growth: right amount of sunlight, right amount of water, right soil, and the type of flower. In comparison, many elements are factored into growing a caring human and therefore a caring society. If any one of these factors are out of balance a flower(human) can wither or lose there way. I feel as though this is where violence comes from, and also because we are mistake prone as humans.

Jean Watson is one of the scholars that I gained a lot of insight from, and she was also the first person that I have witnessed explaining the caring experience. Her 10 Caritas Process was a way for people to care for one another by first developing themselves, and it was put into 10 easy to understand steps (Watson, 2022). Developing and sustaining trusting loving relationships and opening your mind and body to spiritual miracles were two points that really stood out to me, because I have trouble doing these myself (Watson, 2022). I do not like trusting people or giving away control of my life, but I understood how if that energy was reciprocated, a better human would come out of the other side.

Maya Angelou

One outside source that I really enjoyed listening to was Maya Angelou's I am Human poem. In this poem she says that one cannot look at a murderer, criminal, or serial killer and say that they could never do such a thing, because at the end of the day we are all human (Sanchez, 2013). My first reaction was thinking that she was wrong because I would never do such a thing. Then when I really thought about what she was saying, I agreed with her. Everyone would say that they could never do such a thing, but they could because they are human. The people that committed those atrocities are also human, albeit a bit deranged, but they have the same composition as anyone.
