People lose autonomy and they are not interested or connected to what they are learning. No motivation intrusive or extrusive unless they love school or the subject naturally.

the lack of choice leads to burn out because especially when it comes to academics because we are all exhausted from school and then having to do homework with strict deadlines on top of it too leads to burn out because we end up having to stay up all night to do homework and don’t get any sleep. lack of sleep = burnout, as well as the stress that also equals burnout.

Students are just doing what they’re told all the time, lack of agency, and they don’t have an interest or personal investment in what is happening in the classroom without having choice.

Choice is too much when teachers lose total control over the class or if there are no boundaries and the students are not learning what they need to. Limits on how far choices go (what kind of project/assessment is ok, but total control over what they are learning might be too much) are important so that they don’t become out of control and are still learning substantial material.

Students lack in democracy, authenticity and agency when the teacher dictates how they learn and how they can express their opinions. Students aren't empowered and becomes zombies in the predictable routine of school.

Deeper value of learning, self determination, democracy, place for the room to feel like the students space instead of just the teacher space, learn how to make decisions which they will use for their whole life's, the class works together, gives students a voice, they have ownership of their learning, remember their learning and enjoy it, less depression, higher self-esteem, greater feeling of compentance, teachers who share the power have a better time at work and are freed from constantly being the knowledge holder

It’s important to keep boundaries to not loose total and complete control, but it’s also important to allow students to make decisions, be creative, and problem solve.
