Lastly, another effect of excessive screen time is the effect on academics. Based on source 2 and 3, social media can cause people to change things about them due to popularity, interaction with different people, etc...This is important to consider because sometimes social media can change one’s perspective of things, which can be turning school from being a good thing to a bad thing. It can change someone who is very knowledgeable to someone who doesn’t even care about getting good grades anymore.

For a great degree, physical and mental health is a big causatum due to too much screen time online. Based on Negative, positive effects of excessive social media use on teens studied, paragraph 7 and 8 speculates, “It found that the more time teens spend on social media, the more likely they are to feel depressed and have problems sleeping. Researchers have also found a link between social media use and poor body image, which can lead to eating disorders.” According to Are you a Screen Addict?, paragraph 13 informs that too much screen time would most likely lead kids to become depressed and obese. For these reasons, too much screen time many lead kids to not be in a healthy condition and it may change their lifestyle. As of this, too much screen time may lead to dangers with strangers who are seeking for intercourse. To further more elaborate, too much screen time may lead to a change in mood and attitude towards others, a gain in weight, fatigue, more worries, personal relationships, online bullying and harassing, having addiction like the type towards drugs, and a disturbance to a person’s eating habits.

Staring at your vivid screen for hours up near your face as the days pass can help build up your skills of becoming a better multitasker, having reflexes, and better vision. Besides these pros towards more screen time, it leads to more damage than benefits. It’s a disaster of what too much screen time has caused. When you stare at your screen for as much as hours, it would lead to drowsiness and inclination. Too much screen time leads to mental and physical health disorders/symptoms and academic failure.

Inconclusive, the query of the effects due to an excessive amount of screen time is controversial. After scrutinizing Kristin Lewis and Baltimore Sun’s didactic articles, I strongly believe that social media is a deleterious factor towards teens. It is deleterious for teens because it causes damage towards your mental and physical health and it would also lead to academic conundrums. My perspective of this issue has left me with little doubt that more screen time leads to any positive effects.

Britney Ly
In addition, cyber harassment is important to consider when communicating about uncontrollable screen time. For example, in source 3 the author states that “Mikami’s research found that they were more likely to harass, bully and take online risks such as “sexting” or “MIRLing” (text-speak for “meeting in real life” a stranger one has chatted with online), or to be vulnerable to others who harass, bully and coerce.” This is a valuable point because it shows that when teens chat with others online, they would realize that they would be talking to someone their age instead of talking to someone way older than them. They wouldn’t sense that they are talking to a stranger who wants to meet them in real life to do some horrible things to them.
