Rather than taking a minimalistic approach (like Ray Oranges) Mike took on a more traditional styled and incorporated a more layered look to his artwork, thus showing more depth and tone. Unlike most sketch note artists (who don't seem to leave out any negative spaces) Mike leaves behind quite a lot of negative space, thus emphasizing on his shading, shadow application and 3D effect.
