Her dad thought that if you throw someone into the pool they will learn how to swim. He was basically torturing her because he would let her drown until she was able to float or maintain her head over the water. She has been through a lot in her life and she is able to keep her head up and keep moving forward just like the nickname she received, Mountain goat. However she was about 6 when she was at battle mountain and she doesn't settle down until she leaves welch and of to new york.
