Filipino Paintings usually came from life experiences and timely incidents or even social issues. Everything that is happening around to be exact. It means that Filipinos were actually aware and concious as to what exactly is happening to the sorroundings and were ready to speak againts the wrong doings that they are seing and experiencing . Filipino paintings throught time have one goal or purpose and it is to make their countrymen see the mistreatment and cruelty againts Filipinos and allowing them to see in order to achieve the desired freedom and peace.

SUBJECTIVE

This painting of San Cristobal has been hanged in the our church St. James the Apostle, for over years. It was painted by Jose Luciano Dans in 1850. According to Jose (1991),this painting was hidden behind the 2nd painting of San Cristobal. It has been reputated that this one was the original San Cristobal painting. Some say that maybe the patrons or the church officials dislike the look of the painting, and so commissioned a second painting, which is now a tamer and more pleasing look of San Cristobal. The paint is applied directly on the adobe walls of the church. If you look closely at the painting, you can see the horizontal alignment of the mastic used to join the adobe blocks to each other.

CONVENTIONAL

The Spoliarium (often misspelled Spolarium) is a painting by Filipino painter Juan Luna. Luna, working on canvas, spent eight months completing the painting which depicts dying gladiators. The painting was submitted by Luna to the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884 in Madrid, where it garnered the first gold medal (out of three). The picture recreates a despoiling scene in a Roman circus where dead gladiators are stripped of weapons and garments. Together with other works of the Spanish Academy, the Spoliarium was on exhibit in Rome in April 1884.

Painters of his time were concerned more on the fine strokes of the brush so as to create an adjacent visual facsimile of the subject. Aside from Victorio Edades who was known as the

original art rebel, Lorenzo was also renowned “the other rebel” for traversing

the use of distortion to reveal strength

and character while sustaining the

sympathetic portrayal of the life of the

common people
