The theme of this digital resource is The Great Fire of London. It aims to support the teaching of history in Key Stage 1. The National Curriculum (2013) for History states that children should be taught about 'events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally'. This unit starts by introducing the children to the topic by exploring the streets and people affected by the fire.  This forms the foundations for further lessons which go on to explore how the events of The Great Fire unfolded. The end result will be a role play created in small groups by children playing a TV news reporter, reporting the event.
