The novel 'It is no Secret' by Dona Meehan is a true story about her experience of the stolen generation. The feeling of been taken away is a strong theme in the book, exploring how Meehan's movement into the white society effects her understanding of her identity and the world around her.
A technique that Meehan uses to demonstrate this experience is descriptive language.
An example of this technique is "With a sudden jerk, squealing of brakes and a load of puff of the steam engine, the train shunted forward. Fear gripped my heart. Barry and Widdy had bewildered looks on their faces, glancing at me then at each other".
By using this technique, we can create a clear image of what she is feeling when the train jerks forward and her mother isn't on-board.
The image of Meehan crying out the window looking at mum reinforces the feeling of been taken away that is created in the novel.

In my test I need to work on explaining my answers as well as backing up my answers. I can do this by thinking carefully about my response and also get into greater detail. I think this would improve my final results. On the last question I only got one out of three as I did not back up my answer, also did not make connections with the topic "culture and identity".
