Tourists enjoy visiting Singapore’s many temples, for its impressive architecture, rich history and intricate design.

week 3 - what "ambient" should feel like in a lounge?

The ambience of an airport lounge should feel calm, comfortable, and welcoming. It needs to offer travelers a peaceful escape from the busy, noisy airport environment, helping them relax before their flight. Comfortable seating, warm lighting, and carefully chosen patterns can evoke a sense of cultural richness while maintaining harmony and balance. Textures and finishes should feel premium yet approachable, helping travelers unwind while they wait. On top of that, the lounge should have a space that are specific designed for kids to play.

Weaknesses: flowers are often used in pattens, so we need to find a new way to present it in a different ways to get a better impression.

Strengths: there are various ways we can go deeper into that sections, flowers always bring the elegance and attractiveness to viewers

week 4 - concept 1

Weaknesses: be careful to use too much details, it might make the concept become a bit overwhelmed, inconsistent and chaos

Strengths: it is a good way to combine flowers in a playful way, by using round shapes, curves and colourful colours, which would express the concept much better

My original idea was to showcase the cultural diversity in Singapore. However, when I chose a playful and energetic style, I felt that the food theme would be more appropriate. So I changed my topic. I realized that when I only choose familiar things to do, I choose the safe path, but it makes me not develop more. Challenging new topics, bold ways of doing things, I can step out of my comfort zone, from there learn and improve my skills.

Our group’s final concept is “Floral, Playful, and Energetic.” While flowers are often associated with gentleness and tenderness, we wanted to take a different approach by highlighting their vibrant and playful qualities. The idea is to create an interactive screen featuring national flowers from different countries, blending together as a metaphor for cultural diversity in Singapore. To maintain consistency, we kept the geometric elements in the foreground and used them to shape the interactions. However, we decided to remove the animals since there were too many elements competing for attention, and instead focused on flowers as the main symbol. The idea of forming a lion out of flowers is particularly meaningful, as the lion is Singapore’s national animal.

this is a short video I made using Figma to demonstrate our idea. The mildground shows the interaction of flowers, they are changing their colours, shapes and position.

Our idea for the foreground is to have bubbles moving slowly and repelling each other when they touch with the movement speed feels like are floating in the air. I did a very simple test for this foreground.

This is another idea I came up with. If there is no one enters the sensing area, the screen just shows the buds is gradually changing colours and the bright spots moving around

Week 9: Expand & Elaborate

When someone interact to the screen, a few buds will bloom and turn into flowers, the more people walk into sensing area the more flowers blooms.

Week 11: Plug & Play 1: Design in Motion

This week, our group started working on design geometric flowers. My role was to create geometric flowers based on the lotus, peony and orchid which represent of India, China and Singapore respectively. Besides, I also created 3 gradient back ground colours.

Week 8:

This is the idea I contribute to my group. For the foreground, the bubbles were made colourful to match with the geometric flowers. When someone interacts with the screen, some of the circles will gradually change to geometric flowers, which also change colours and shapes. As more people interact with the screen, it eventually will be filled of flowers.

Week 12: Plug & Play 2: Refinement

After receiving feedback from our lecture, we created 12 national flowers in total instead of national 9 flowers we had before. Therefore each of us made one more flower. I also finalized the background colours to make make the layout looks better and match the colours of our flowers.

Week 13

I created gradient bubbles with 70% opacity, this makes the bubbles look more interesting and give a dreamy and gentle feeling when they move around. I also placed all our group's flowers into the background. The flowers will appear in different sizes while floating, just like the bubbles.

Week 13: Pitch Ready (Prep Final Deck)

I wanted to describe how the bubbles move and transform into flowers, so I used Adobe After Effect to create this video. In the foreground state, the bubbles move and change size slowly. when someone interacts the screen, the bubbles gradually become smaller and turn into flowers. The more people interact, the more bubbles transform into flowers. In the midground state, the flowers appear in different sizes, rotating white floating. When people leave the screen, the flowers gradually become smaller and turn back into bubbles, returning to the ambient state.
