This novel affected me because it "really spoke" to me and I felt I finally liked a book. I liked it even more because I could have conversations with my club about it. I tend to like books more when I can talk to people about it. This book opened me up to the dystopian world. I enjoyed this book because it was unique from what I've read before. Before The Giver, I used to read cartoon books. (ex. After reading the Michael Vey books, I became more intrigued with mystery and action. I got this book at the book fair as well and I bought the whole series a short period after. The thing I liked most about this book are the antagonists and the protagonists. I can relate to them because they are brother and sister. I liked the concept of the book as well. The whole finding your parents and fighting crime thing. The whole series was a mystery and the crimes were very action packed. It was a high level reading book and I was around that level at that time. It impacted me because it was the first book/series that got me hooked. My friend read the whole series with me. The book opened me up to my favorite genre, mystery. This book inspired me to also read other mystery books and some action books. Michael is my favorite character because he has gone through a lot to get to where he is now. That might be a life lesson as well. Hard work pays off.
