- the strong African armies kept the British out for 400 years. the British could only take 10% of the continent and they couldn't navigate their rivers. Everyone wanted Africa bevause of all that it had. there was a whole scramble for Africa. Finally, the British came. They came and saw all Non-Europeans as a lower class. they forced them to work for them and they owned them. if they did not follow the rules then they would be severely punished or killed.
King Leopold became their leader. He took over Congo and enforced slavery severley. he became greatly feared and hated in Africa.

the British created a major trading port at Singapore. Southeast Asia had land that was perfect for agriculture. the Dutch East India Company seized many lands. because they had a big supply of oil and tin expanded their control until they took over the whole string of islands and called them the Dutch East Indies. The Dutch began to think of Indonesia as their home. They created a big sheltered harbor on an island just of the Malay Peninsula. Britain encouraged China to immigrate to Mylasia. colonization in southeast Asia had mixed results. the economies grew because of cash crops and transportation improved communities. education, health, and sanitation also improved. However, people from other countries came and were forced to work on the crops.

The East India Company was the leading power in India. the British government regulated the east India company, and they had their own army called the Sepoys. India was a major supplier of the raw materials for Britain . The British made it so India could not operate on its own. the British installed a railroad system. India was most well known for their agricultural crops. because of colonism, India improved because their public health increased and they became more modernized. on the other hand, the British held most of their political and economic power. The Sepoys then rebelled because the cartridges for their bullets were sealed with beef and pork fat which was extremley offensive to their religion. this led to the Sepoy Mutany which fueled the racism for the English.
