Elias Howe invented the sewing machine, which greatly improved the way clothes were made and increased the rate at which we make them. Howe was born in Spencer, Massachusetts in 1819, and had been interested in clothes making all his life. His fascination with working on clothing led him to his invention of the sewing machine. The sewing machine was able to work on clothes with a rate faster than 15 times that of a person. His invention caused clothing factories to boom, which helped the economy of the US as well.
Source: https://www.britannica.com/biography/Elias-Howe

George Westinghouse was born in Central Bridge, New York, in 1846. He was someone who always had ideas, and sought out every opportunity to do something great. He used his ambition to make technology better-most known for the railway air brake. His brake system provided a fail safe for trains' braking systems, which improved the trains as well as made everyone who rode one safer. He was even named the "greatest living engineer" of his time because of his work.
Source: http://www.westinghousenuclear.com/about/history

John Deere's name may look familiar-that is because he invented something so useful that it would stick around and advance for hundreds of years. Deere was born in Vermont in 1804, and became a blacksmith and a manufacturer. In his adult life he invented the steel plow. He got the idea by deciding that a polished, more capable blade could plow the sandy land of New England. And it did! The invention of the steel plow made farming faster and easier, and many people wanted it, which is how his company grew so much that it is still around today.
Source: https://www.deere.com/en/our-company/about-john-deere/past-leaders/john-deere/

Oliver Evans was a self taught mechanic born in Delaware in 1755. He had an apprenticeship as a wagon maker, which taught him about the mechanics of transportation. The knowledge led him to the invention of the steam engine. He also became an advocate for high pressure steam. His invention of the steam engine revolutionized travel by making it much more faster than before.
Source: https://www.encyclopedia.com/people/science-and-technology/technology-biographies/oliver-evans

Samuel Slater was not actually born in the United States, but rather, the United Kingdom, in 1768. As a boy he worked in a cotton mill, which sparked the idea for his invention, which was a water powered cotton mill. Instead of giving this faster method of processing cotton to the UK, he gave it to the US. This gave him thee nickname "Slater the Traitor" in the UK. Even so, he helped the US greatly in the textile industry.
Source: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/theymadeamerica/whomade/slater_hi.html
