Wave exposure:  Since Topshells live at the mid tide area, they are equally exposed (around 6 hours) to air and water and are adapted to withstand this fluctuation.

Salinity: As topshells have a shell made from calcium carbonate, if the water salinity decreases (becomes more acidic) their protective shells can get dissolved which ulitmately can threaten their chance of survival.
