WrathfulForm on Deviantart:
Q: How many years did it take you to improve your art into what it is today? They are really scenic and fascinating to see. And, do you have any tips on gaining art inspiration?
A: First of all, thank you very much and excellent questions!
I have been drawing ever since I was little, pretty much if I can hold a pencil, I was drawing with it so I think over the years my skills improved and with practice. I have also learned that references and referencing other artists to find your own groove, despite others often saying it's bad or even shaming you, can be very helpful. It can help with finding style as well as just referencing a certain subject to guide you and many other things. You should never completely copy another artist though, for various reasons. Just experiment and have fun with it, combine styles, try to do something you never though you would or even could. You never know, you might just surprise yourself, I know I do! As for gaining inspiration, I get very inspired by music and it tends to be when I get my most creative ideas. Artist block is unfortunately just part of being an artist however, there are methods to try to counteract art block once you have it. The most efficient method (in my opinion) and the first, hardest and most important step to overcoming your artist block is to force yourself to draw. It's like going to the gym when you are feeling lazy, the hardest part is getting off of the couch but once you are there, wearing your gym clothes, it gets easier and you naturally feel more motivated to get on the treadmill. This is how it is for me anyways, every artist is different. For ideas, just look around, everything and anything can be your subject. Just have fun with it, if it doesn't turn out exactly how you envisioned, who cares, you weren't having any creativity flowing and didn't want to draw at all 10 minutes ago ha ha! Lastly, finding challenges with prompts that I find interesting is another way I like to overcome art block. You can have a guide from the prompts but it still leaves lots of room for your mind to take over. Just think of what you can do with just the word "pink".
