Cat: Ralph is also bothered by the fact that Jack starts to tease him. "Ralph heard the mockery and hated Jack. The sting of ashes in his eyes, tiredness, fear, enraged him." as a chief, he's supposed to be clean and proper to model for the rest of the boys as the symbol of civilisation. However,he restarted his habit of bitting his nails which doesn't make him look proper and instead more like an improper uncivilised person and also shows his degeneration. His jealousy of the boys' attention on Jack makes him more competitive and self-centered, and shows that he doesn't care about being civilized. 

"Just a game." (Pg 142)
