The Western Canon, or as it's better known, classical music is known by many but understood by few. To me, the western canon is a culmination of various composers such as Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach whose ideas and music shaped the way that music was thought of and as a result created a standard by which music is studied and compared. Like many others I have not listened to much classical music, except for those whom have become icons of classical music like Mozart and Beethoven. When first exploring the local classical music station, the majority of what I heard was orchestral pieces by various composers, some of which I had never heard of. When hearing the local classical music station , I felt of sense of refinement and class from the music as if it would be something that only people of high class would listen to. An evident difference that I felt when listening to canon music is that there is a feeling of separation between the music and the listener , that is unlike any other type of music that I've listened to. In many of today's music, people feel a connection with the music because of the emotion and lyrics that the artist has put into the music however when it comes to classical music , it feels more like your a listener and therefore the music feels less interactive.
