Delaying the serve after being ready is not allowed by the rules. Once the server is ready and the receiver is ready the server should deliver the serve promptly. According to the rule 9.1.1 the server must serve within 5 seconds after being called ready and any significant delay can be considered a fault. If a player deliberately delays the serve to distract or throw off their opponent it could be seen as unsporting behavior and the umpire may issue a warning or fault depending on the situation. However players sometimes try to delay the serve to throw off the opponent’s timing or to gain a psychological advantage but this should always be done within the limits of the rules to avoid penalties.

In badminton if a player misses the shuttlecock completely while serving it is considered a fault. The rules state that the shuttle must be struck with the racket during the serve and if the player fails to make contact with it the serve is deemed a missed serve. As a result the server loses their turn and the opponent is awarded the point. There is no opportunity for a re serve in this situation meaning the point goes to the opponent. Missing the shuttle while serving is a common mistake. This rule is 9.1.9 and says the server may not miss the shuttle when serving.

In swimming competitions pulling on the lane rope is considered a violation of the rules. The lane ropes are designed to keep swimmers within their assigned lanes and prevent interference from other swimmers. Grabbing or pulling on the lane rope for balance support or to aid in turning is not allowed as it can give an unfair advantage or disrupt the fairness of the race.

If a swimmer is seen pulling on the lane rope during a race it can result in a disqualification or a warning depending on the severity of the violation and the rules of the specific competition. This rule is 10.7 and states swimmers are not allowed to pull on lane ropes.

A false start in swimming happens when a swimmer moves before the starting signal. This is a rule violation and usually leads to disqualification. Modern systems use sensors to detect early movement. In most races only one false start is allowed for the whole group. If one swimmer false starts they're disqualified but others aren't penalized unless they also start early. False starts ensure a fair race for all swimmers. This is rule 4.4 and states that a swimmer starting before the starting signal has been given shall be disqualified.
