My biggest concern with technology in the classroom would be accidental damages. When dealing with high schoolers, accidents happen all the time and I worry that my students may accidentally break something of the schools and I may end up liable for the cost.

This is absolutely something to be concerned about! Also I worry the high schoolers will use the technology for something it is not supposed to be used for.

Including technology in the classroom does not exactly mean that they have to be the one using it. It could be something that the teacher could use to teach the students about a certain subject. You also have to know which grade level is ready to actually use technology if you decide to use it.

Gabby, I also worry about this. Students, especially high school students have a tendency to not care about things the way we want them to. I'm sure the school districts we teach at will have safeguards in place to help alleviate the personal liability.

My high school had personally assigned chrome books for each student. When these chrome books were assigned, students had sign a waiver stating that if any damage happened to the chrome book while in the students possession it was their responsibility to replace it. If the student wished they could pay a small fee and get a warranty on their chrome book but it was not required for purchase. I feel this was a great precaution for the students to be extremely careful with the technology they were given access to.

I feel the same way as you. But luckily now at quite a few schools, they are trusted with their own laptops now. So that can take some pressure off of you because the students have to take care of them.

A school district that I am familiar with offers insurance that is paid by the student and parent, which they label as a technology fee. The Chromebooks were paid for by a grant, and the technology fee paid at the beginning of every academic year is covering the computers costs of repair in the case it becomes broken.

This is something that I have thought about too. But you would think that schools have some kind of insurance to cover the technology. But if the school does not, you should not be responsible for the damages.
