Deviance - How can football survive this sort of scandal?

The widespread corruption has had a huge impact on the sport of football: This governing body has disgraced football and the world cup. In addition the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 world cup have been widely investigated and it is alleged that disloyal payments were made in order for the countries to host the tournament in their country. The future of these world cups are hanging on a thread and are still being investigated by the FBI, however, it would take a load of evidence for the bidding process of the world cups to be run again. Thinking about relocating the next world cup in Russia wont be very practical as not many countries have the right infrastructures and stadiums or money to host such an event as the world cup at such sort notice. If England hosted the World cup, most of the stadiums aren't premier so they would have to increase this number just to meet FIFAS requirements.

Is football too powerful for its own good?

Football is a huge sport and is known all around the world and has a high profile as it is widely advertised. It is known for corruption but because of the scale of football and the power it has it is rare that these scandals make it out into the public to be prosecuted. Sponsors mean that they are able to collect the money back through this which shows hoe powerful it is and they can do what they want when being involved in scandals.

The word deviance connects to odd or unacceptable behavior. But in the sociological sense of the word deviance is any violation of society's norm. This what FIFA is and there is two particular men in the limelight. The men involved are Sepp blatter and Michel Platini. These men were the leaders of the organisation when the scandals were going down. Both men were charged and banned from football as total of 8 years. The scandals began on December 8th 2010. Russia and Quatar were awarded the next world cups and this sparked outrage from other countries and Russia have a reputation for causing trouble at sporting events, also in Quatar it is going to be far to hot and the players may not be able to perform. Some say that the Russians payed for the world cup but the is no evidence, some people Quatar payed for it but others argue is is an attempt to get a smaller country to host it to increase revenue.

How can FIFA regain the trust of the general public?

Deviance is behavior that goes against the norm of a sport that results in a detrimental effect on individuals and society. Sepp blatter and Michel Platini both used deviance to corrupt FIFA and give it a bad reputation, losing the trust of millions. This means regaining the trust of all these people will be very difficult indeed, if not it will be impossible.

What can be done to avoid future corruption in football?

It needs to be focused on the younger generation and pushed so that to sport is played competitively but without the exclusion of any person for any reason. Once this has occurred they can be brought up to the true intentions to bring people together. Once people reach higher levels of football they start to get driven by the pay rather than the passion for the game. The lower corruption they could lower pay then people would possibly be less driven by money and driven by by the love of what they are doing. We can improve football in the future , its will be hard and people will have to make sacrifices.
