That's the Ticket!

You can use Padlet as an exit ticket to summarize the learning from the day. It is a powerful tool to see other students ideas and thoughts in an interactive way. They can also include links or other media to illustrate their learning from the day. Padlet allows students who do not normally share their thoughts in the classroom to become an active part of the classroom environment. The ability for the students to work anonymously is especially important in the middle school classroom, as the "cool factor" of answering questions in front of the class seems to diminish. To have all student responses in one place instead of on post it's allowed me to organize each class periods thoughts in one space.

Padlet is a wonderful app that allows students to post their thoughts or feelings about a certain topic. They may also organize facts about a topic or open up a discussion about that topic. This supports student's learning by making their ideas concrete and visible to each other. Students may have their voice be heard by creating their own padlets to gather information from others about a topic they are researching or care a lot about. Padlets help organize any and everyone's thoughts and feelings into clear, separated, visible boxes. These boxes give the user a space to write a topic/name or descriptions/answers.

First, teachers create a Padlet wall, title it “Time to Take a Selfie,” and provide a prompt with questions for students to answer. Below is a list of questions I have used to encourage students to share something about themselves. Typically, I select three questions for them to answer in their post along with their names and photos.

Where is your happy place?

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?

What is the furthest place you have traveled?

What is something you like about yourself?

What is your favorite story (book or movie)?

Do you consider yourself an introvert, an extrovert, or a mix? Explain.

What is one thing you wish you had more time for in your life?

What do you do to relax?

When you are not at school, what do you spend most of your time doing?

What is your most prized possession? Where did it come from and why do you love it?

If you could only listen to one genre/type of music for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Think about the best class you’ve ever had. What made that class so special?

Once you’ve created your Padlet wall and decided on a question or multiple questions, post your photo and response to model what you want students to do.
