"Laughing releases endorphins that can help relieve stress and anxiety" (Page 4). Laughing is an important part of any conversation, in my opinion. This is because laughing is fun, reduces stress, and makes you appear to be smart.

Recently, I had a conversation with my Coach about a race performance in the 400 IM. I didn't make any jokes, but it was a stressful situation. My coach asked me if I felt good about my race. I said that it started out well but my stroke fell apart. When asked why I thought this happened, I said it was because I didn't feel like I had done enough aerobically. He got defensive, because I made a few key mistakes. I didn't make a joke about aerobic conditioning, which was my first mistake. By creating a joke I could have eased tension (page 4) and shown I wasn't too seriously concerned. Another thing that went wrong was I wasn't uplifting about it(Page 4). I should have said that my anaerobic capacity had increased greatly, allowing me to go out quickly, but I didn't feel as though my aerobic conditioning was up to par. My body language was also terrible. I was cold, so my arms were crossed over my stomach, which made me look closed and critical (page 3). I was also fidgeting like crazy because I was freezing, so it looked like I didn't really care about what the coach had to say and was actually just there to yell at him (page 3). I should have made a joke, kept open body language, been more uplifting and not fidgeted.
