The type of evidence used is quotes by members of homeless outreach team. Statistics about the number of homeless people counted in a given time frame is also part of the evidence.

A rhetorical device that the author uses is negative connotation.  This is done by using the "skeptics"in the context of them arguing against peaceful remediation of students who are trouble makers. It is used with the word hippy-dippy as an expression of frustration that the author has against the skeptics.

Pathos is used during the use of the above rhetorical device. If the source is not eradicated, then the problem will never go away. In this case, if you do not know the cause of why a student is misbehaving in school, it only makes it harder to stop their misbehavior. This article explains the several different factors that contribute to a student's kisbehavior in the classroom, and I fully agree with every single one. It was very interesting to see the different types of students who misbehave, for example, the controlling student, the revenge student, or the attention student.  Other sources are lack of self-confidence and an ill-challenging cirriculum, which I believe are usually the big problem with most students that misbehave. An effective rhetorical device being used is imagery/metaphor, when describing what organizations are doing to reach out to not just homeless students but other people who can help them.

Ethos is the appeal used. The author says that a group of 40 people from 19 different organizations has been working to shine a spotlight on youth homelessness. I learned that about 1 out of 300 Americans are homeless cinsistently every year. I was surprised to find out, however, that African Americans and LGBTQ members suffer homelessness the most over white heterosexuals. I do not know the exact cause of this, but I do know that black people especially in cities are targeted by drug dealers, which is something about teh American culture that will be nearly impossible to fix. Also, doing srugs is the main issue associated with homelessness, which is why this makes sense. Aparrently, the citizens of Martin county in eastern Kentucky are struggling with this issue. It is also apparent that the water district is the worst in Kentucky and they won't fix the problem because they do not have the funds to do so. The funds would be coming from the coal industry, which is no longer active and therefore the water board has no way of paying for fixes. I would be very distressed and angry if I was in the same situation that these people have to deal with every single day for years. Pathos is definitely the strategy used in this text.
