Oftentime stereotypes hold us back from visiting places we dream of visiting. A lot of people would even think of Costa Rica as being a dangerous place but Crickett was able to enlighten all of us. She described how before leaving for the trip she thought of Costa Rica as a very underdeveloped place and that she needed to prepare for the worst. But in reality they aren’t nearly as underdeveloped as most would think. She even talked about how her house had WIFI! It seemed as though the hard work there didn’t seem to be much of a chore, more of just an opportunity to get out there and do something productive with your time. Even while working Crickett never stopped admiring the beauty of the country. This was something that I could really relate back to some of the things we’ve learned about beauty and how it is within everything. Even in the blistering heat while working hard Crickett was still able to see large amounts of beauty in what she was doing. She looked at all of her things and just felt very overwhelmed. From going from little to nothing, to having everything you could ever need would definitely be startling. What was interesting about this was that most people would think that a teenage girl would be thrilled to come back to all of her belongings but not in this case. Crickett had learned how to live a very minimalist lifestyle that seemed to greatly benefit her own character. Not only just traveling but also it inspires me to look a little closer to try and find the hidden beauties within my own community. It also made me think about a more of simplistic way of living and how to put oneself in that mindset of appreciating little things with the opportunity to have it all. And I do think that I will try and carry this specific mindset with me through the rest of my life and see what I can accomplish with it. Along with those things, this conversation made me truly curious about people from all over the world. What are they like? What do they do? And how can I find out these things?
