I think homelessness definitely exists in Finland, however it is much less of a problem here than almost anywhere in the world or it is harder to notice. Its harder to see how you would eradicate homelessness in Finland completely since it rarely is about not having opportunities to have a home but more about substance abuse, domestic violence or mental health issues.

Our group didn't have a strong opinion on the topic, because we don't have enough information on the topic to form one. We all agreed that the subject is very sensitive and divides people based on their views on it.

While we talk about all the good things we must also see the flip side of the coin. This days benefits are getting some serious cuts and its driving more and more people to tough places.

Finland is violating the European Social Charter because the level of social security does not meet basic needs. The country has received three warnings from an international committee, but the government continues to cut benefits. Criticism is particularly directed at the fact that the cuts affect the most vulnerable groups, such as low-income youth. In my opinion, cuts and changes to housing allowance and social benefits have affected low-income families the most. One positive aspect of Finland’s family benefits is the child benefit, which provides important financial support and helps families manage the costs of raising children.

We do not agree with the idea that unemployment is not a problem in Finland. Even though many people have jobs, some still cannot find work, because there is not enough jobs available.

Unemployment can cause stress and money problems. It also affects families and the whole Finnish country. If people do not work, they cannot pay taxes.

in my opinion absolute equality is impossible but finland is really advanced on social equality. The finnish social service system ensures equality by providing all citizens equal opportunities and assistance regardless of their backgrounds. In our opinion what kind of a family you are born into has an effects for example what kind of health insurance and other private services you can afford.

The elderly

The quality of the care old people receive can depend on different things, such as the nurses and their motivation and interest to take care of the elderly. We also don´t have enough staff members for the best possible quality.

Our Group agrees that students don’t get enough support because government change housing support. Before students got housing support twelve months over the year. Because of that money is tight and that equal to students needing more money and taking the student loan.

in my opinion we don´t have enough services for people with substance abuse problems. we don´t have enough workers, time or places to people with substance abuse. And if you are lucky to get help, the time in the services isn´t enough.
